We need more Black midwives!

The world needs more midwives...and most specifically Black midwives! I am an advocate for birth rights and I demand a change in birth outcomes. According to March of Dimes (2015), Black women in the United States are 4 times more likely to die in childbirth. The maternal mortality rate for Black women is about 41 per 100,000 versus 11 per 100,000 in white women. Black women are also more than twice as likely to lose a baby in stillbirth and they're more than twice as likely to experience the death of their infant in the first year of life. The death rate for Black babies 11.5 per 1,000 versus 5 per 1,000 in white women. In other words, 1 out of 100 Black babies will die in their first year of life. These numbers hold true even after controlling for other risk factors!

This isn't because Black bodies are inferior. This isn't because of socioeconomic status. This isn't because of education level. It is because of racism and chronic oppression. The system is rigged. As a Black midwife, I will offer affordable QUALITY care, resources, and education, all within a beautiful and respectful community full of informed consent and refusal. Together we will change these outcomes one birth at a time! Thank you for your support and love. God bless!
